1992 Ford F150 Pickup Fuel pump problem

Greetings to all on the forum. My problem is a 1992 Ford F150 pickup with a 302 V8, the vehicle is equipped with dual fuel tanks. The truck will not run off the front tank, it has plenty of gas in the tank. When I switch to the front tank the vehicle dies and won't restart but runs fine on the rear tank. It was repaired under the recall for the switching problem. I hooked up the code scanner and it is showing a code 542, fuel pump secondary circuit failure between control module and ground. My question is are the grounding points for this circuit located in the engine compartment. Any light that any of the Ford experts on the forum can shed on the question. Am I looking in the right location for the grounding points or are they located elsewhere on the vehicle. Thanks for any help or info I can get on this.

Ummmmm.....I don't know. I do recall having a problem with our 92 when the switch itself went bad. Only the front tank would work. I would imagine that the grounds will be at the tank itself.

Another thing we've discovered......the TFI module controlls when the pumps run. But if one is working then the other should as well.

Does the gas gauge work when you switch tanks?

Beefy, Yes, the tank guages work on both tanks when switched. Danny, The recall has expired on the vehicle, it ran fine until this problem cropped up.

I HAD 91 f250 and it had gas tank problems.you could run on the main tank switch over to the second tank, run on it for a while then switch it back to the main tank and it would have more gas in it than when i first switched it. wierd. if i was you i would check and see if ther is a fuel filter between the tank and the valve that switches from one tank to the other.
