Problematic Powerstrokes

2005 F-250 PSD with a whopping 8000 miles.

4 bad injectors
2 turbochargers
2 EGR valves
1 idle kicker switch

Blows blue smoke
Premature combustion
Leaking oil
Faulty programming

All this good stuff for only 54,000.00

Did I forget to mention I get a cool 12mpg

Somebody pinch me cause I must be Dreaming.

Black smoke.............I have heard of some problems with the baby stroke, nothing like yours though. I certainly would research the laws in your state.
The Duramax has some problems as well. I've not seen anything on the Cummins but Dodge trannies suck.

Dodge trannys do suck.......Been there.

A good friend of mine has a '00 Powerstroke and has had NO problems with it. The way I understood it was that the big difference with the two is one is smaller displacement than the other.

I think you need to see a regional customer rep from Ford. And look into the lemon laws and rattle your saber when you get armed with the Lemon law info.

The L10 Cummins will smoke the blue/gray stuff alot and it's fuel. The one I use at work uses very little oil. It's a small displacement engine. The big ones at work belch the black sooty stuff.

You're not alone in the problem department. Ford has bought back many of those 6.0 litre engines for various reasons, some which you mention.

Make sure you document every conversation you have with the service writers, every time the truck is in the shop and for how long and for what reason, document EVERYTHING.

Then hit the Ford Rep with your info. Stay on them and don't take any **. This is your money on the line, thier job is to make it right

I have to work on one of those things a week at the dealer, I work at a Ford dealer and yes they do have there problems. Keep an eye out for an oil leak in the back of the engine buy the turbo, there is a valve that goes bad there, and also oil pan gaskets. The whole engine has to come out for that one and it is a 14 hour job start to finish.

Trust me Extend your warranty, at 75 bucks an hour a 14 job you dont want to have to pay for

Unfortunatly all the brands have a lot of problems with there diesel pickups, in our work fleet of trucks we have all three and the ford's have been the worst for engine troubles with 7 out of 11 2005's blowing the turbo seals, dodge's losing the tranny's, and the chev/gmc's losing tranny's and rearend's. Also my dad's 02 duramax has had 2 transmission's put in it and he drives his truck like a granny. This is insane for the cost of these trucks.

Just shows what the torque of a diesel can do to drivetrains. TGG had a trans show (show 312) about some outfit that builds/improves transmissions for these beasts. Seems they all have weak links according to this show. The outfit is BD power http://www.bd-power.com/

Trannys

If you do some plowing with that truck the tranny can go also, With these new trannys ford is using there is a problem inside, there is a small rod that moved everytime you go from drive to reverse, there is plate that it hits, but the problem is this plate is too thin. So after you plow for a year or two the rod breaks through the plate and inturn through the casing. Our trannys guys does one of those a week at least.

All of those things are common on the 6.0L. Reflashes are needed often from what I've heard.

I can't fathom why they dumped the 7.3L. They had that engine dang-near perfect. When they get the kinks out of the 6.0L Ford will dump it for another engine. Its vicious and irritating cycle.

I don't care what anyone says, that new tranny has issues too. I would have loved to get a PSD but a new one just couldn't compare to a new Duramax/Allison. We have had our truck for almost 6 months and have almost 13,000 miles on it and not a single issue. The combination of this engine and tranny are unbeatable from a stock standpoint.

If we were to buy a used a diesel, it would be a 99-02 7.3L PSD though. I love my Fords and GMCs but Ford messed up with the 6.0L.

Sorry you're having these problems and I know saying 'you aren't the only one' doesn't make it any better. Hope Ford can fix this quick. Good luck.

IMO, if you're going to do serious upgrades to your engine or for serious hauling (I don't know how well the Allison does but I've heard good things so far and I've also heard the newest Dodge manual tranny is good)-just spend the extra money and put in a performance tranny.
