My transmission

Hey, newbie here. I just bought my first car. It is a 69 coupe(mustang) It has a 302-2v. C-4 automatic(my first question and problem) and I have no clue what rear end. All I know is that the ratio is 3.00.1.

My first problem the trans. it is sliping., And it pops when it is go to shift from 1 to 2. And it shifts at 40mph and them some times at 45-50mph. Now i want to know if it is just the torque converter or is it the whole trans. My car as 25k miles on a rebuilt engine have no clue on the trans. But it still runs strong.

Second would be how do I find out what size rear end I have?

Any and all information would be great...Thanks and I am hoping to have fun on the forum. And does anyone here live near Pomona,CA. And do you know a good place I can get a headliner and carpet for a good price? Thanks again.

Hey 69, The rear end will be most likley the 8" Ford unit, which had factory gears of 2.79, 3.00,3.50 available. As for the transmission, it will be the C-4 unit. If it's slipping on the gear changes, it could be the follwing: Low trans fluid level, Partly plugged up trans filter, a bad vacuum modulator. All are easy to repair, that is were I would start.

Good Luck!

First it sounds like who ever you bought the car from put "trans-medic" in it and your tranny is shot.
To tell which rear end you have all you need to do is look at the lower carrier bolt on the front of the rear-end, if a deep socket fits on you have an 8" if only a shallow fits you have a 9".
