4l60e transmission
Hello,
I have a 1993 G-20 cargo van. I just bought a junk yard 4l60e tranny and installed it. It will not downshift on it's own. If I stop, it will stay in 3rd gear. I can manually downshift it. It also starts in 3rd if you put it in drive. It will not go into first. If I put it in first, it will start in second. It shifts in and out of drive and overdrive just fine. The male end of the 20-pin connector located in the tranny housing came apart. It has one broken pin. When I tried to pull the female end off, the male end came apart. All of the wires with pin ends came out of the plug housing. Thus, leaving a ball of color coded wires with pins on the end laying on the tranny. I would like to put the plug back together, but I cannot find a wiring diagram to tell me which pins belong in which holes on the plug. I am wondering if this is causing my shifting problems, and if I should try to fix it myself. If not, would an experienced transmission man tackle the job, and would it be very costly. Any advice is greatly appreciated. |

Yes that needs to be plugged in that tranny is partially computer controlled.
It would be best to print it out for a reference. pdf connector tranny page

[QUOTE=carsandcycles]No, the 4"L"60e is the longitudinal transmission, it's the 4"T"60e that is the transverse transmission. Longitudinal equals rear wheel drive, transverse equals front wheel drive.[/QUOTE
oh ok , my brother has a 4t60e transmission in his lumina. are the gear ratios the same in the 4l60e tranny and the 4t60e? |

Not nessisarily... Chrysler LHS cars are longitudinal transmissions and front wheel drive.
But the first letter in a GM transmission identification is either L or T designating longitudinal or transverse. My car has a 4T65e. Which means: it's a four-speed, transverse, 65 torque value, electronic controlled transmission. I doubt if the gear ratios are the same. You're dealing with a different engine, different weight of car, and completely different drivetrain layout. In his post, he stated his van was a G-20 Chevy van. "G" is the designation GM uses for a full-sized rear-wheel drive van. "20" indicates it's a 3/4ton rated van. I seriously doubt it could have been mistaken for a transverse front-drive. |

Update us one your tranny connector too see if that solves your problem.
No the 4L60E is a lower geared ratio transmission more designed for towing medium size loads. The 4T60e is more meant just for driving and pulling light loads also the gear ratio is higher. So no they may sound similar but really there totally different gear ratios and transmission.
