Mustang GT Project... where's the Beef?
Thanks for the tune up info on the new 2005 Mustang GT. I hope to own one of these machines by Jan '06.
I do have a "beef" regarding the project and the website. Where are the details???? Am I missing something somewhere on the web site? Wouldn't it be nice to list ALL the upgrades, mfg's websites, costs? Yes, SCT info is available but what about the specific blower, air intake etc. If this was done somewhere on the web site, I can't find it. So, where's the BEEF?

Let me tell you a little bit about the cars that went into the Two Guys Garage show.
Mustang GT #1 was silver with foose wheels. It was setup to be a bolt-on performance car with results achievable from mail order parts and tuning. We wanted to use parts that could be installed by almost any DIY or shop, and didn't require any special knowledge before starting the projects. For Exhaust we used JBA shorty headers and cat-back exhaust. Under the hood we used a Paul's High Performance Cold air intake, and PHP underdrive pulleys. The only other modification to the vehicle was an SCT XCalibrator2 tuned for 93 octane. The mustang was equipped from the factory with a manual transmission. Stock it put down around 260RWHP, and modified it put close to 300RWHP down on a dynojet. Mustang GT #2 was silver with the stock bullitt wheels. We wanted to build this into a vehicle that could be achieved for a reasonable budget but still make exotic power levels. The primary modification to the mustang was a Kenne Bell 2.2L intercooled supercharger kit. In addition to this, we used 60# injectors obtained from Injector Dude and a SCT Big Air 2400 MAF Sensor. With the 60lb injectors, it was necessary to get injector adaters to fit the old style plugs. Providing fuel for 500RWHP also required fuel system modifications. We added a Kenne Bell Boost-a-pump and larger gauge wiring from the FPDM to the Boost-a-pump. We also installed larger fuel lines provided by Modular Depot, and made a modification to the fuel pumps inside the tank (still using the stock pumps). To keep the power to the ground, we used a Centerforce DFX Clutch. We used the stock spark plugs, but regapped them to around .30. The exhaust on this car consisted of JBA long tube headers, a high flow catted-x pipe, and catback exhaust. Once everything was put together, we used the SCT XCalibrator2 tuner to deliver tunes written on the dyno using SCT Advantage 3.0 Software. You can either use the dealer version and have the vehicle tuned by a dealer, or use the Pro Racer package and tune it youself. To get accurate air/fuel readings we used the AFM1000 wideband for proper tuning. We achieved SAE 500RWHP/500RWTQ on both a Mustang Dyno and a Dynojet. The power on the supercharged car was all done using the stock motor taking it near it's reliable limits. There is a lot more potential for those that would change out the pistons and rods for forged hardware. With a forged bottom end you could raise the boost. There is also more potential if you wanted to install more agressive camshafts or ported heads. For the show, here is a list of groups that conributed parts or services Kenne Bell - Supercharger System JBA - full exhaust systems for both vehicles Lamottas Performance - for prep work on both vehicles Billet Speed - for providing a vehicle and special assistance Centerforce - DFX Clutch Paul's High Performance - Cold Air Intake and Underdrive pulleys Modular Depot - fuel lines Injector Dude - 60lb injectors let me know if you have any other questions about either vehicle. |

Wow what a post full of information. The show was pretty darn good too.
I did have an issue that I would like to feed back to the show (that I may be wrong about), but don't want to openly be critical of the show and start another round of negativity. Is there a way to do that? |

I just wanted to give a special thanks to everyone involved with the build up and the collaberation to make it happen.
v6sc, Thanks for providing the information. The blower is actually a Kenne Bell 2.4L. We ended up using an SCT 2800, for future growth. Our latest street tune has provided 472rwhp on 93 Octane w/ only 9-10psi. The best ET to date is a traction limited 12.0@122 with this file. Good Full Report on Mustangs
Thanks v6sc for the full info on the projects. It would seem a good idea if someone from the show would spell out the projects on their web site for all of us looking for the "Beef".
It would be a very welcomed addition to the generic three sentence descriptions of the shows. Thanks again and maybe I'll try out a few of the mods.
