Carbon in the intake clogging it possibly. Is it electronically controlled or vacuum controlled?

also clean your connection. If you tried everything above with the cleaning. Then I would look at the wiring and see if it is corroded or damaged.

What code are you getting? You may not have needed to replace the valve.

Right, that is my point. Need to change tense, I guess - Nope, checked, and it would have received a good grade.

Well, as suspected, you have P0401. If you do a simple search on the good ol Inet, you'll find that P0401 represents "Insuficient flow throught the EGR Valve" While this could be due to a failed EGR valve, there are things to check out before chunking down some $$ for an EGR valve. Do you have a V6 or 4 cyl (just wondering). How many miles do you have?

Honda extended the emissions warranty on a bunch of late 90's cars to 150,000 miles, and 14 years. Check to see if yours is extended.

If not, the passageway in the intake manifold is known to get clogged up pretty bad once you hit like 120K miles. Depending on your manifold, it can be really easy to clean out by removing a plate. the hanger trick may not work, again depending on the manifold.

Here is what you want to do:

Bench test your old EGR manifold by sucking on a vacuum line (you probably don't have a hand pump to do this, right?) Does it open cleanly, and shut hard. Is it impossible to blow through the valve when closed - Yes? (You likely wasted money on a new EGR. What is the part number, I may be interested in it. Now, move on :

Now, with either valve, put vacuum to the EGR valve when it idles. If it dies, the passageway is open. Hesitates a little, but still runs, it is probably clogged up. Keeps running like nothing happened? It is clogged.

Honda/Acura says to put carb cleaner in the port and blow air (compressed air) to free up the debris. This works on some, depending on the model.

Anyway, Many cars
