chevy 305
Does anyone know where i can find out what year my chevy 305 is? It is in a 74 gmc 1500 original owner took out the 350 and put in a 80's 305 I need to know timing and plug gap. needs a tuneup bad.

Well a 80's 305 vin H and F have a spark plug gap of .045
With vacuum advance plugged in I believe timing is at 10 degrees sorry can't remember lol.

I know.... I know.... go to http://www.mortec.com/links.htm scroll all the way down, and it explains all the engine numbers, and where to find them..

got it it is a 1985 305. after lots of scraping grease and a mirror found a date on the back of the block. thanks for all the help

if it's a 1985 305 it will be either vin H or F. The spark plug gap is still .045 and both vin numbers use the same spark plug. According to this book.
