2002 Monte Carlo
I've got a 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo and I had new tires put on the car about a week ago. After that, the Service Tracking System light keeps coming on every time that I start the car up. Is this a bad thing? If I keep turning the track system off (an option on the car) how long can I go before this causes a problem? I don't know if putting the tires on the car really has anything to do with the warning light or not but it seems strange that they happened at the same time frame. In the manual, all it says is that this controls the spin on the wheels and that if the light comes on, you need to see the dealer. That sounds like money! Any suggestions?

did they put the correct tires on the vehicle?
I would keep the system off, if the warning light stays on. This just means you will not have the traction control working. So you will have more tendency of spinning the wheels. You can call up the dealer and see if they have an update for your vehicles computer. Sometimes the engineers dont allow to large of a tolerance and different tires exceed that tolerance. |

Couldn't it be a possibility that when changing the tires, a wheel speed sensor was broken/bumped/cable unplugged, etc. and that sensor no longer sends data to the tracking system and the system is seeing a fault.

i have a '97 buick gs, whenever the car is lifted(wheels off ground) the low tire light comes on-anyway-there's a reset button to correct this. i had to call the dealership(service dept) to discover the solution. you might try the call too. let us know what they say about your situation.

I'd call your GM service dept and get see if you can reset the traction system. We do our re-sets through the radio and the manual goes into detail how to do it. Pretty easy. If not see what the GM techs say and bring the car back to the shop who did the tires. They SHOULD know what they are doing and correct the problem. We have a 02 SS with 16" rims and I did have a problem finding the same size Goodyear tire when one caught a nail and needed to be replaced. The shop did find them though after a bit of searching. I'd also question if you went to a different size tire would that be the problem. As mentioned I bet it's a speed sensor that's broke/mis adjusted. The shop should take care of that or pay the service bill at the dealer otherwise. Good luck!
