97 chevy rear end upgrade/question

I have a 97 Chevy 1500 PU 2wd with rear end noise when under power. The rear end has 342 gears and drum brakes and ABS.I have found a low milage 2002 rear end with disk brakes in a salvage yard. My Question is will that rear end bolt right up with no modifcations and will I have to do anything differant to the brake system(porptioning valve, master cyclinder, reprogram computer) or can I just hook the brake lines up bleed and go?

Thanks for any input,
Dano521

I don't think a 2002 will work on a 97 but I believe up to a 1999 they would match up, 1998 would fit for sure. You probably need to change a few things to get disc to work. I had drums on the back of my 96 and bought a disc kit for the rear end for around 2,000 bucks, and I found out it was a waste of money.

You will need a valve to adjust the rear discs.

If I ever did this type of work again, I would find a 3/4 ton with rear disc brakes that is between 1996 - 1998 And take everything I needed off it to do the swap.
Right now I have the 96 on stands, putting 3/4 ton springs on front and back.

Thanks for the advice I have since bought a rear end out of a 98 and installed it,very pleased no more rear end noise just the sweet sound of my dual Magna Flows. The 2002 rear end had 6 lug pattern anyway and my 97 has 5.The gears in my original diff. look good so I plan on changing all the bearings and seals and putting it back in and selling the one I Bought from the salvage yard with 75K miles on it.
Thanks again

I think you'll be happy that way even though you don't have disc brakes. Just keep your rear drums maintained and it will still help stop good.
