2000 cherokee will not start.

Hello, and thanks in advance to anyone who can help me find and hopefully solve a problem that I have run into with my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic (2wd). I turn the key, I hear the starter click, and the Jeep either does absolutely nothing, or starts very briefly, loses power, and shuts off.

I thought the battery was to blame, but I recharged it using a wall-to-car charger, until the gage was at =13.5-14V, and tried starting again, with the same result. The headlights stay on , all internal lights remain on for extended periods, and the windows, cd player, A/C, power locks, etc. all work as they usually do.

Could the problem be my battery, fuel line, alt, a pump or sensor?

What is the static voltage at the battery before you charge it. It still sounds that it may be a weak battery. Also you mention that you charged the battery, but have you tried cleaning the battery terminals first. Is it the original battery?

could be alternator. Some new cars will not run for long without a alternator that can keep up with the power demand. Check the wires at the alternator, and make sure it has a good ground, Either clean the mounts or add a ground wire to the alternator case. Also if you can have the alternator tested.

Check your battery and cables, you may want to do a load test on the battery, too see how long it takes to drain the battery. If the battery can't put out the required amps. It's shot.

Just because the battery cables look good externally, doesn't mean they are good internally.
