Chevy motor interchange with Isuzu
I have a 1996 Isuzu pickup with a 2.2 liter 4 cyl. motor. I would like to know if an S-10 Chevy 2.2 liter motor would inter-change. And if they would, what year model. I can pick up a 1999 S-10 pretty cheap.
Thanks Jack |

Chevy and isuzu work together on alot of items. The chevy s-10 does come with the 2.2 L 134 CID L4 engine as well. Both engines are identical. Horsepower they would be identical also. Isuzu buys the engine from GM and put it in their isuzu truck, Much like GM buys Isuzu duramax diesel and puts it in their GM trucks. I know for sure 1996-1998 would drop right in, 99 maybe also but not 100% sure on that. There was a few extra smog changes that year.

The Isuzu Hombre is actually an S-10 pickup. The only difference is the S-10 is available with a 4.3L V-6 and the Isuzu isn't. The 2.2L engine is virtually the same.
When the S-10 was originally introduced, in 1982, the base engine was a 1.9L Isuzu, four cylinder, and an Isuzu four-speed transmission. (I was there) Ford and GM both sell their trucks in Japan, and the Japanese import them here. The Mazda pickup used to be a Ford Ranger, and the Isuzu Hombre an S-10... I don't think Mazda is importing Rangers with their badging anymore, but Isuzu still is.. Last edited by Saltmine; 08-06-2006 at 09:52 PM. Reason: spelling errors |
