91 camaro
hey guys, i finally got my 91 camaro back from the body shop(8 months to completely repaint it) now when the car is going uphill it stalls out and doesn't want to restart, but it runs great on flat land.. my gas cap doesn't seem to be venting properly, but even when i do leave it loose the car still has this condition, does anyone have any ideas on it.. the fuel pump and filter are about two or three years old(don't drive more than 10,000 miles a year on it either).. please help with any ideas
Thanks |

I think your on the right track. I would suspect the gas is not getting picked up by the fuel pump up hills. I'm pretty sure the 91 camaro has the fuel pump in the fuel tank. Doing so. The cap doesn't need to vent. But it does need to create a vacuum in order to suck up the gas. I would get a new gas cap and see if that solves the problem.
A good gas tank and good gas cap. When you open the gas cap the tank should go pissssshhhhh.

You may also want to check the filler hose that goes from the tank to the filler. Theres also a overflow hose, that shouldn't have any leaks either.

i've never had any problems with any fuel leaks, or any fuel smell. the last time i took the gas cap loose i even heard the tank pop(not just the release of pressure).. now also the other day i was looking at the injectors(this is a tbi system) and one of my injectors had a wire pulled some(at least the insulation on the injector was pulled away from the plug..

So jack it up in your garage and watch what happens.

i know the body shop didn't swap out any parts, as i did stop in from time to time, but i also know the guy that did the work(it is his shop that he runs as a side business). yea i need to jack it up, but it seems to be fine till the engine warms up, so i just need to get the time to get back on it(working 12 hour days doesn't help much), but i am hoping that getting the wire insulation back in the connector helps. i agree with the possiblity of it shorting out or something, that was one of my first things was wanting to watch the spray pattern of the injectors but i just haven't had time to do it.. if anyone thinks of any other possiblities please keep them coming
once again, thanks guys |
